Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.
Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of God.
Blessed are those who hunger for righteousness, for they will be filled.
Many who are first will be last, and many of the last will be first, for God raises up the humble and brings down the proud and arrogant.
Cast your anxieties upon the LORD because he cares for you. The LORD hears the cry of the oppressed and downtrodden.
The rich man ignored poor Lazarus who was laid at his gate, but in Sheol he longed for Lazarus just to touch his tongue with a finger dipped in water, seeing him in paradise across the great abyss. Like Lazarus, the poor have heavenly consolation as they wait for their deliverance.
Pure religion is this: to take care of orphans and widows and to share with those in need, bringing God's will on earth as it is in heaven. The true church reflects the riches of heaven in providing and caring for the poor.
The sheep are the truly strong survivors as they feed the poor, clothe the naked, and visit the prisoners: what they do for the least of the children of God, they actually do for their Messiah.
