Nine of Swords
When I kept silent, my bones wasted away through my groaning all day long. Day and night, your hand was heavy upon me; my strength dried up as in the heat of summer.
I am weary with moaning; every night I flood my bed with tears.
Let those who are godly offer prayer to you when you may be found; surely in the rush of great waters, they shall not reach them. Sorrows will increase for those who run after other gods, but your love will return to all who look to you.
Job cried out, "My sighing comes instead of my bread,/ and my groanings are poured out like water./ For the thing that I fear comes upon me,/ and what I dread befalls me./ I am not at ease, nor am I quiet;/ I have no rest, but trouble comes" (Job 3:24-26). Yet God restored him.
Yes, even at night my heart instructs me.
"Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword?
...
I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor anything else in all creation will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus..." (Romans 8:35-39).
