The Empress
A more earthly aspect of motherhood as the High Priestess is the more spiritual, she is the counterpart to the Emperor card. She wears the robe of pomegranates, which screens the deep waters behind the throne of the High Priestess. A picture of the church as the Bride of Christ on earth now as Israel was symbolically married to God in covenant, the Empress can represent the nurture and care of growing things--seeds of faith; hopes and dreams; body, soul, and spirit.
Pomegranates on her robe represent fruitfulness, promise, and abundance. Sunlight and evergreen trees suggest eternal pleasures and joy at God's right hand. As the woman in Revelation 12, she is crowned with twelve stars.
You have put more joy in my heart, O God, than when their crops and new wine abound.
You water the earth with your rich river of delights; you bring forth bounty and fruitfulness.
One plants and one waters, but you give growth.
