King of Coins
King Solomon brought about the golden age of Israel when silver was as common as bronze and gold was as common as silver. When God promised to grant him any boon, he requested wisdom to rule God's people, so because he did not ask for riches or long life, showing he was starting out with a heart of gold, God granted him everything. Later, however, like King Midas whose golden touch became a curse,
Solomon was led astray by his great accumulation of treasure, chariots, and wives.
Solomon was a great manager and builder, constructing the temple of God as well as his own palace. The Queen of Sheba came from afar and, after seeing Solomon's wisdom and glory, said, "Not the half has been told!"
The lesson of this card is to maintain the heart of gold at all costs and not to be led astray as Solomon was as he accumulated treasures, chariots, and wives. In the parable of Jesus, the rich fool built bigger barns after a plentiful harvest, saying to his soul, "Soul, I have laid up wealth for many years to come. Relax. Eat, drink, and be merry!" But God said to him, "Tonight your soul is required of you. To who will this wealth go now?" And so it will be for all who gather for themselves and are not rich toward God.
