The Hermit
The hermit carries the light of the world, represented by the six-pointed Star of David. His staff and white hair signify wisdom gained through solitude. He has come to the highest vantage point, a holy place of study and meditation.
The desert fathers also turned away from all distractions to focus on the word of God and prayer. They had the grace of silence and simplicity.
When he walked on earth, Jesus also often retreated to a solitary place and created a sanctuary within his heart early, in the quiet of the morning.
Come away for a little while. Leave behind the noise and static of the racing rats.
Be still and know that I am God.
